Hello, I am Emma Carew Grovum, a journalist, hiring and culture leader, organizational advisor, and coach. I help news and mission-driven organizations build stronger systems for hiring/recruiting, onboarding, leadership training, professional development, workplace culture, and retention.
I founded Kimbap Media to help organizations navigate growth and change with greater clarity, care, and intention. I work alongside leaders, managers, hiring teams, and staff to identify systemic challenges to architect practical, equitable systems that support both excellent work and sustainable careers.
I served as Director of Careers and Culture at The Marshall Project, where I led recruitment, hiring, and professional development for a growing staff. I redesigned candidate and onboarding experiences, developed leadership training and staff programs, and worked to strengthen an employee- and family-first workplace culture.
My consulting work draws on more than 15 years of experience in newsroom leadership, product thinking, audience strategy, digital transformation, organizational design, facilitation, and coaching.
I believe people do their best work when expectations are clear, managers are intentionally developed and supported, organizational policies clearly recognize humanity, and belonging is built into everyday organizational practice. Today, I'm coaching leaders on management and staff retention/development, while also helping newsrooms build the structures needed to promote and retain journalists of color. 👩🏫
